The Best Thing You Can Do for Mothers, Babies, Birth and Families is to Become Net Savvy!

I just had my mind expanded this morning by Laureen Hudson's hour long online session on how to use the internet to get a message out. Laureen's session “Creating an Online Presence," gave me a wealth of information in a short time and impressed me with how many people are out there who completely rely on the internet for their information. I needed that, and maybe you do, too.

  - Ina May Gaskin

I just hung up the phone from doing the hour long session with Laureen Hudson on “Creating an Online Presence”.  Laureen’s know-how and expertise were enough to wake up even the birth oldtimers like me and Ina May to the many unused opportunities of the internet.  Laureen’s engaging and easygoing teaching style made even those scary (to me) terms like “hypertext, streaming, wordpress, technorati, feedreader and trackback” start to make sense.  Her passion is to reach the generation of young women who have not yet given birth BEFORE they fall into the black hole of aggressive obstetrics.  I came away from the class today with lots of ways to improve my website and make it more modern, usable and interesting for readers.  This class will run again this coming Friday (August 22) and I heartily recommend it.

NOTE - Dolisos has merged with another homeopathic company, and the Childbirth Combo is no longer available.  There's a similar homeopathic product called Matrigin.

A recent study on the effects of prenatal homeopathy in preparation for labor and birth had some preliminary results that are very promising. Pregnant women took a homeopathic complex (5C actaea race, caulophyllum, pulsatilla, arnica montana, and gelsemium)* each day beginning on the first day of the ninth month. The results (based on preliminary study of 93 subjects) were conclusive as to the effectiveness of the homeopathic treatment. The duration of 8.7 +/- 4.5 (1 +/- DS) hours of labor for the placebo group against 5.1 +/- 2.4 hours for the homeopathic group (p <= 0.001 for 90 ddl), clearly demonstrated the efficacy of the homeopathic treatment. The incidence of dystocia was significantly lower in the treated group (11.3% against 40%) (p <= 0.01).

(From: "Preparing for Labor and Birth with Homeopathy - Study on the Influence of a Homeopathic Treatment In Preparation for Labor and Birth." A copy of the study can be obtained from Dolisos at 1-800-365-4767. or 702-871-7153. Fax: 702-871-9670.)

The "Childbirth Combo" homeopathic complex can be purchased from Dolisos. When purchased in bulk by a professional, the cost per birth is about $5.00.  [ Dolisos "Childbirth Combo" never got beyond the experimental stage.  Alas.]

Homeopathic remedies are usually taken by placing the pellets under the tongue and allowing them to dissolve. If they are still undissolved after about 5 minutes, you can chew them and allow the smaller bits to dissolve.

Homeopathic remedies can be rendered ineffective (or antidoted) by strong smells. Although not everyone will be equally affected by all of the common antidotes, it is advisable to consider the following recommendations regarding homeopathic antidotes:
Homeopathic Remedy Antidote Guidance List
Antidote Avoid Before Remedy Avoid After Remedy
Mint 20 min. 60 min.
Garlic 20 min. 60 min.
Onions 20 min. 40 min.
Caffeine 20 min. 105 min.
Mint: Check toothpaste, teas, mouthwash, candies, etc. Caffeine: Coffee, Chocolate, Soft Drinks, Teas, Wt. Reduction Pills, Alertness Pills, etc.

DO NOT USE AT ALL WHILE TAKING A REMEDY Perfume - Cologne - Camphor - Essential Oils Note: Keep remedy in a cool and dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not keep the remedy near any electromagnetic devices and avoid x-ray machines at the airport.

Some people warn that homeopathic remedies may be antidoted by electromagnetic fields from electric applicances or such as telephones, cell phones, headphones or computers or from large motors such as automobiles. It's best to avoid these for 5 minutes before taking a remedy and for 25 minutes after taking a remedy.
